Jake Wolf

For nearly three decades, Jake Wolf has been a driving force in the Vail Valley's vibrant music community. A professional drummer, music educator, and dedicated community leader, Jake has built a life around bringing people together through the power of music.

The past year has been particularly memorable. As a member of Sages & Spirits, Jake performed to sold-out audiences at Denver's Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom, the historic Boulder Theater, and the legendary Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. These landmark performances represent an exciting chapter in Jake's musical journey, bringing his passion for improvisational music from the Vail Valley to some of the country's most celebrated stages.

Sages & Spirits is a Grateful Dead-inspired ensemble featuring an extraordinary lineup of musicians, including Melvin Seals, Rob Eaton, John Kadlecik, Rob Barraco, Jay Lane, and Skip Vangelas. Together, they bring decades of experience from the extended Grateful Dead musical family, creating performances rooted in improvisation, musical exploration, and the spirit of community.

Originally from the Washington, D.C. area, Jake studied music at the Hartt School and the University of Colorado Denver before making the Vail Valley his home in 1997. Since then, he has become a fixture of the local music scene, sharing stages with countless musicians while helping foster a lasting appreciation for live performance.

Beyond the stage, Jake is the founder of the Wolf Academy of Music and a two-time Grammy-nominated music educator who has dedicated himself to inspiring musicians of all ages.

His commitment to the community extends into public service. From 2012 to 2020, Jake served on the Avon Town Council, including as Mayor Pro Tem, and helped champion the development of the Avon Pavilion, now an important gathering place for live music and community events.

From intimate performances in the Vail Valley to sold-out shows on nationally recognized stages, Jake's musical journey reflects a lifelong commitment to the people and experiences that make live music special.

Jake is deeply grateful to the Vail Valley community for nearly 30 years of friendship, inspiration, and support, and is honored to be recognized in the 2026-2027 Best of Vail Valley as Local Musician/Band.
